Artist Statement

“I create textured, tactile artworks that invite touch, evoke emotion, and reflect the beauty and fragility of both nature and the human spirit. Through layers of Powertex, fabric, clay, cardboard, and rich washes of acrylics, inks, wax, and oils, I explore themes of healing, hope, and resilience. Each mark, crack, and surface tells a quiet story—of brokenness, mending, and gentle strength. My work is a celebration of imperfection, a space for reflection, and an offering of comfort and encouragement to those who encounter it.”

Artist Bio

Aferdita Fazliu-Drozd is a visual mixed media artist based in south east London, known for creating richly textured paintings that transcend traditional boundaries. Using a unique fusion of Powertex, plaster, fabric, and more, her sculptural wall pieces invite viewers to engage not only visually but emotionally and instinctively.

Deeply inspired by the beauty of nature — the land, the sea and its inhabitants — Aferdita's work captures fleeting memories, treasured places, and heartfelt connections. Her paintings are filled with brush marks, vibrant color, and layers of texture that reflect the people and moments that have touched her life.

"My pieces invite you to engage with them on an instinctive level, allowing them to speak to your own emotional core, evoking feelings, memories, and sensations that resonate within you," Aferdita shares.

Through the tactile quality of her work, she offers a sensory experience that reaches beyond the visual — encouraging viewers to connect with art in a personal, multidimensional way. Often pairing her paintings with poetry, Aferdita weaves words and textures together to deepen the emotional impact of her creations.

In 2017, Aferdita left her role as an HR Manager to follow her passion full-time, founding Little Painter Art Classes for Children from her home studio in Hayes. She is deeply committed to making art accessible, believing it should play a central role in education and personal wellbeing. Alongside her children's classes, she also runs mixed media workshops for adults, sharing her techniques in a warm, welcoming environment where creativity thrives.

Aferdita always aspires to develop her art practice. In 2024 Aferdita trained in Powertex fabric and stone art sculpting and is now a qualified Powertex tutor. Since September 2024 Aferdita has been taking part at the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program and will be graduating in September 2025.

Aferdita is a member of Bromley Art Society, Croydon Art Society, and South London Woman Artists.
